Seventeen years ago my dad asked us a question while performing our wedding… but first.. let’s rewind.

It was June 21, 2008 on a beautiful Ohio day. All 350 guests had arrived, I sang to my soon to be bride as she came down the aisle (no you cannot see the video) and we were deep into the ceremony that had included live worship, three sermons, communion and three part harmony (apparently we’re a little extra).

My dad had been my pastor most of my life. I grew up in his church and he was my best friend.

His message at our wedding was the story of Jesus’ first miracle at a wedding. Jesus takes ordinary earth water and miraculously turns it into the most delicious wine for everyone at the wedding reception.

At our own wedding, my dad asked us a question.. “what could your marriage be like if you invite Jesus to your wedding?”

I’ll be honest.. I didn’t even remember this message. It was my wedding day and I was highly distracted by the sight of my soon to be wife, the smells of chicken parm, and the thoughts of the later evening activities.

Fast forward to December of 2021.. my dad passed away rather quickly from COVID-19 and it shook our family.

In those following days as we mourned and prepared for a celebration of life service, we dusted off our wedding video, and this time I heard it.

“What could your life be like if you invited Jesus into your ordinary moments?”

That question shot through my soul. I realized as I prepared to preach my dad’s funeral, the question that he had asked us was a challenge and a testimony…

My Dad, David Frank was an ordinary man who invited Jesus into his every day ordinary moments. The result.. a legacy that will affect generations to come.
